What is Learning?

Learning is many different stimuli and a change due to an experience.  This can be knowledge gained by studying or instruction or modification to a behavior due to an experience.  Learning is neither a reflex nor a change due to development. Some examples of learning are:

1)      A young girl riding a bike for the first time

2)      A young boy saying his first word

3)      A girl starts crying when she finds out she has to read out load

4)      A boy realizes after learning subtraction and addition that if 5+4=9 then 9-4=5 and 9-5=4

There are two main theories of learning behavioral and cognitive.  Behavioral is explanations that emphasize observable changes.  While cognitive focuses on mental process.

Classical Conditioning

A neutral stimulus gets paired with an unconditioned stimulus and gains the power of that stimulus to cause a response.

First some meat powder was set in front of a hungry dog they noticed that the dog would then salivated.  They also tested to see if a bell went off the dog would not salivate.  When they paired the bell with the meat powder the dog would then salivate.  After pairing these to stimuli the meat powder and the bell then the dog would salivate just for the bell.
